Giorno Quattro

Today we went to the city of Ostia. It is the home of ancient city ruins. This community had 50,000 people at one time. Centuries ago Italians were running little shops, going to the theater, and even using a public restroom! It is amazing to think of the similarities and how advanced they were even then.

Before we visited the ruins we went to a little shop and ordered our own sandwich stuff! It was very interesting having to communicate in Italian. I felt bad for the poor man who had 20 American students ordering in poor Italian. The food was delicious!

Note the pig leg in the top right corner! (I didn't get meat.)

One of the girls in our group went down and sang a beautiful Italian song for us! It was incredible and attracted quite the crowd.

We also visited a beautiful castle; unfortunately pictures were forbidden inside. It was once  used for military purposes and the pope used to ride around the hallways on a horse. It was then used as a hospital. Our guide only spoke Italian so luckily a couple of our girls translated the things the rest of us couldn't understand.
Elephant Shortcut shoutout. ;) love you Gina

We were adventurous and climbed in this secret hole. It led to this underground tunnel system type thing!
